Maria was the worst storm in PR since San Felipe Segundo in 1928 and San Cipriano in 1932, which together destroyed coffee and tobacco agriculture. We residents of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (USVI), although US citizens, cannot vote in federal elections, so we have no way of holding the executive or legislative branches accountable. There are several petitions running right now calling on the federal government to continue helping Puerto Rico and the USVI. We really need people stateside who CAN vote in federal elections to support us in calling for sustained assistance. I am listing here those that I have found. I hope you can sign these and pass the word along. Please consider it!
